Early on, I said yes to almost everything.

Every location.
Every opportunity.
Every conversation that sounded promising.

At the time, it felt like progress.

More machines meant I was growing.

But over time, I realized something.

Not every “yes” helps you move forward.

Some of them slow you down.

Not Every Location Is Worth It

A location can sound good on the surface.

Nice building. Good conversation. Seems like a solid opportunity.

But if the traffic isn’t there, or the demand isn’t real, it won’t perform.

Now you’re spending time servicing something that doesn’t justify it.

One weak location doesn’t seem like a big deal.

A few of them start to add up.

Time Is the Real Cost

Every machine takes time.

Driving to it.
Stocking it.
Maintaining it.

If a location isn’t producing, it’s still costing you the same time as a strong one.

That’s where most people get stuck.

They fill their schedule with low-performing machines and have no time left to find better ones.

I Pay Attention to the Terms

It’s not just the location.

It’s the deal.

If the expectations don’t make sense, I move on.

High commission with low traffic.
Unrealistic service expectations.
Too much friction to get started.

The business still has to work.

If it doesn’t make sense on paper, it won’t make sense in practice.

Saying No Creates Better Opportunities

This is the part that takes time to understand.

When you start saying no to the wrong locations, you create space.

More time to prospect.
More time to improve what you already have.
More room to take on the right opportunities when they come.

Growth becomes more controlled.

Less scattered.

The Shift

At some point, you stop chasing every yes.

You start qualifying everything.

Does this location make sense?
Is it worth the time?
Does it fit into the route?

If the answer isn’t clear, I don’t force it.

The Reality

A few strong locations will always outperform a lot of average ones.

That’s where the real growth comes from.

Not more machines.

Better ones.

The Takeaway

Saying yes feels productive.

But saying no is what actually builds a better business.

It protects your time.
It protects your margins.
It keeps your operation clean.

If you want to grow, don’t just look for more opportunities.

Look for better ones.
